Welcome
The Centre for Sustainable Futures at Plymouth University has to-date hosted two All Our Futures national conferences, which have striven to look at a broad way at sustainability issues and the response of higher education to the challenges and opportunities they present.
In September 2008 All Our Futures 1, sub-titled ‘Education waking to Threat, Hope and Possibility’ welcomed academics and the business community from the City, region and internationally to join the event. Over a hundred papers and workshops together with a range of displays were featured at this first conference. Keynotes were given by Mark Lynas, David Orr and Juliet Davenport.
Following this success All Our Futures 2 was hosted in September 2009. This event offered a change in focus with the sub-title ‘Getting Real – Investing in Our Future – by Design’. The event was experimental in its decision to shift away from the conventional academic conference and in so doing to offer an opportunity for the local and regional community including to come together with academic researchers, teachers and learners in discussion of the challenges faced from multiple perspectives. Keynotes were given: Victoria Hurth, Alastair Fuad-Luke, John Elkington and Sarah Parkin over the course of the 3 day event.
The conferences have generated a rich and diverse amount of material from the speeches, workshops, presentations and displays that have been prepared for the events. This site provides an access point for this information bringing together PowerPoint slides, academic papers, associated reports and audio-visual material. The resources on this site, as well as being of particular interest to the delegates and presenters who attended the conferences, also provides an overview and link to the many and varied topics that were discussed during the two events.
